Inspired by art
One of the best ways to personalize your own home is to add some pieces of art; like original paintings, prints, statues, installations or photography. The best ones in my opinion have some unique story and they add character and interest to your home decor.
My friend has four pieces of art made by artist Minna Seilonen. She just received the two last pieces. They are part of the Maidens triptych. I immediately fell in love with them and got inspired of planning my own home decor once again.
Check out the Facebook page Emily Art Gallery and Music for more amazing and inspiring art made by Minna. Among all the beauties, I think there is one piece I simply cannot resist.
My collection of ceramic masks is very special to me. Most of them have found their way to my home from my trips around the world.
In my home, clothes can act as pieces of art as well. Currently, I have one of my absolute favorite dresses from the Greek Madame Shou Shou hanging in my bedroom.
One of my travel souvenirs is a poster bought from Beirut, representing Rue Weygand in the beginning of the 20th century in all its glory.
All my favorite paintings have a story of their own with a special meaning to me. My living room is dominated by a big bold statement piece I once received as a birthday gift, and it has been the center piece of my living room ever since. The colors in it express the energy of life in the form of a flame. Whenever I feel sad or in need of an energy boost, watching the colors in it, I regain my inner strength again.
I do have another favorite piece in my living room, a painting related to Latin dances. I remember seeing it in the art gallery's window and it was love at first sight. It expressed such intense feelings that I ended up buying it on my way to the dance classes.
For me bringing art into my home is a very personal thing - each piece should bring me joy. My basic rule is to hang pieces I love to wake up to in the bedroom. Whereas my statement pieces are present in the living room so that everyone can admire them.
