Daydreaming about walking around Rome
I absolutely love Rome, and at the moment I miss it terribly. Just few weeks ago someone asked me if I know what the letters of ROMA mean vice versa, I replied laughing: AMOR. That is what Rome is to me, love at first sight.
I never get tired of walking around Rome. No matter how many times you visit it, it always shows a new side of itself. Although I still love to wonder the hole of the Pantheon or walk up the Spanish steps at Piazza di Spagna, every time I am in Rome. And my favorite time to pass by the Fontana di Trevi is during midnight.
I prefer to enjoy Rome the same way the locals do, passing my time in its many bars, cafes and restaurants and just randomly walking around it. One of my all time favorite restaurants is Alla Rampa, kind of hidden in a corner of Piazza Mignanelli, just few steps away from Piazza di Spagna. The selection of antipasti is nice and tasty and I also love their risotto. Many locals visit the place, and that is why I as well feel much more comfortable there, because I enjoy mingling with the locals. Near Pantheon, do not miss the coffee shop Tazza D'oro for some excellent espresso, you can enjoy it at the spot and also buy some freshly grounded coffee with you.
During Sundays I love to stroll around Villa Borghese, one of the largest public parks in the city. The Romans often come here on weekends to walk or cycle. It has a pretty lake with a romantic atmosphere attracting both couples and families. You can also rent a boat to enjoy the lake. The panoramic view from Pincio over the Rome is worth seeing each and every time. The famous Galleria Borghese museum is also located here with its beautiful inner garden. The biggest park in Rome, Villa Doria Pamphili, is also a another great place for outdoor sports on a sunny weekend.
If you are near the Vatican area or the shopping street Via Cola di Rienzo, do not miss the small and quiet Borgo Pio area. I simply enjoy its unique character. Near Vatican, there is an excellent restaurant, La Soffitta Renovatio, that offers a totally gluten-free menu. They make the best gluten-free ravioli I have ever had! They make any pasta or pizza gluten-free and their dessert selection is made out of several choices.
Finally, a tip if you are into more macabre things, the Cripta dei Capuccini is a weird but memorable experience. It is located on the famous Via Veneto. From outside it appears to be a church, but it is actually a crypt full of sculpted skeletal remains. Afterwards you might need a drink around the Barberini square's bars.
No matter what season it is, I always love this amazing city and its lovely people. Cannot wait to go back!
