Athens - love it!

Many of my friends ask me why I love going back to Athens. Mostly people just opt to visit its historical sites and then head to the Greek islands. I enjoy it since it has the exact same feeling as Rome, you continuously walk among the historical sites but it is very much a lively and urban city.

Although I do always enjoy a stroll in Acropolis, this summer in 40C degrees was a bit too much. But what would you not do for your goddaughter!

But Athens is actually so much more than its history. I especially love to wonder the various streets of Athens and visit its many different cafes and restaurants. Furthermore, it is actually one of my favorite places currently to hunt for some new inspiration for clothes or accessorize. And usually you can renew your wardrobe with less money than in many other destinations. Athens also has a great variety of local Greek designers with interesting trends. You just need to wander around and find all the hidden gems!

When in Greece, I highly recommend to taste the mastic (mastiha) ice cream - it is delicious. Mastic is a resin from the mastic tree, originating from the Greek island of Chios. If you love the taste of it, you can even check out the shop full of products made of mastiha. On hot summer days, I love to use the face mist with mastiha water.

If you get tired to the hustle, there are great options for a beach day close to Athens. If you want something chic and crystal clear waters, opt for Astir beach, in the vicinity of Vouliagmeni. There you can also find a little store called Jade V. Tales, which sells awesome bikinis and some of my favorite Greek designers' clothes, my current favorite being Vassia Kostara. Unfortunately, they just do not match with the long Finnish winter so well. ;) I am also a huge fan of Bleecker bags - I always carry one in my handbag and I also use them as an evening clutch.

If you do not like crowded beaches, you can find a nice selection of smaller beaches along the Athens Riviera, the ones with mainly locals are the best ones. The Vouliagmeni lake offers a natural and unique thermal spa experience. Its imposing rock, thermal waters and the underwater tunnels are worth seeing. While swimming, you can also experience skin exfoliation by the fish called Garra Rufa.

And what comes to nightlife...  Athens and its Riviera offer endless options for fun and entertainment. Since I love Latin dances,  I absolutely adore Enzzo de Cuba. Especially for its setting and interior decoration, it is one of my favorite Latin clubs in Europe. You really have a true feel of Havana!
