The Venetian charm of Chania

Chania, in Crete, is simply a charming city with its picturesque old town and Venetian harbour. It is a city full of life at an island pace. The atmosphere is very laid-back but with a nice token of Venetian charm mixed to it.

Most of the sights like historic buildings, churches and craft shops are located in the old town. The old buildings still display some of the marvellous wonders of both Venetian and Turkish design. I just enjoyed wandering the streets around the old town and the harbour. Even took a touristic ride on a horse carriage just for the fun of it!

The harbour area is filled with modern restaurants, bars and cafés with the Venetian lighthouse acting as a landmark. There is a great variety of delicious, tasty food. The best discoveries you make by wondering around all the back streets and other parts of Chania - you can find very nice tavernas filled with local people and excellent home-made food. I also tried out some great cocktails, my favorite one was called Nymph in the lake. :D

And the shopping options are great. Especially if you like Greek design, like I do, you can end up finding very interesting items to your wardrobe. My absolute favorite shop is Al Bies Boutique. It sells a great selection of Greek brands as well as some nice designer items e.g. from Dubai and France. Very bohochic - just what I love! I ended up buying both a silk top and a clutch with a palm tree deco as well as a nice weekend bag. Among my favorite items now once back in Finland. <3

I also ended up finding earrings in the shape of a palm tree, also a creation by a Greek designer. So along the international main brands, if you wander around in Chania, you can find really nice unique boutiques to explore. This was a really positive surprise for me.

I will share some highlights of Rethymno later in one of my blogs so stay tuned. :)
