The Venetian escape
In one of my blogs before Christmas I told that Venice during winter is on my travel list. Well, now I can tick the box since this year's first trip was to a Venetian escape during the carnival time.
But Venice itself is an amazing place, something to experience at least once in a lifetime. The best way to explore it is by letting yourself get lost in it - then you will end up finding the most unique spots that you would never find in its most touristic areas.
If you are looking for a great dinner experience, I can strongly recommend Bistrot de Venise. Both the service and the food were excellent. And the restaurant itself is very nicely decorated. Definitely a place were you easily spend even three hours enjoying your dinner.
Once in Venice, you need a bit of a luxury, so book a nice hotel like I did. I can highly recommend Carnival Palace Hotel for its amazing service. Its Red suite with two balconies and jacuzzi is truly worth it. And the region of Cannareggio is perfect area to stay.
The gondola ride is a classic thing. I advice to take it at sunset. The moment when everything is blue around you in a peaceful canal is something to remember.
The islands of Murano and Burano are worth a visit both. I personally like more Burano with its lovely, colorful houses. Murano with its glass factory history is interesting in its own way as well. Great options to hang around during a Sunday.
This was my second time in Venice and I enjoyed its beauty a lot. But I must say, I did miss the liveliness of Milan and Rome - those cities just have that something special that makes me feel at home.
To be honest, I must say, I waited so much more of the carnival itself. The city was only active during daytime but once the sun went down, it was way too quiet, almost even dead to me. Compared to all the other carnivals I have been around the globe, this was the most peaceful ever. :D
But the costumes and masques are amazing to see though. And of course you need to buy a masque of your own! The shops selling the hand-made masks are worth experiencing.
